Adiabatic sensing technique for optimal temperature estimation using trapped ions

چکیده

We propose an adiabatic method for optimal phonon temperature estimation using trapped ions which can be operated beyond the Lamb-Dicke regime. The quantum sensing technique relies on a time-dependent red-sideband transition of modes, described by nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model in general. A unique feature our is that relevant information thermal distributions transferred to collective spin-degree freedom. show each state probabilities adiabatically mapped onto respective spin-excitation configuration and thus carried out simply performing spin-dependent laser fluorescence measurement at end transition. characterize uncertainty terms Fisher projection saturates fundamental Cramér-Rao bound oscillator equilibrium.Received 16 December 2020Accepted 22 February 2021DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevResearch.3.013244Published American Physical Society under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Rotation sensing with trapped ions

We present a protocol for rotation measurement via matter-wave Sagnac interferometry using trapped ions. The ion trap based interferometer encloses a large area in a compact apparatus through repeated round-trips in a Sagnac geometry. We show how a uniform magnetic field can be used to close the interferometer over a large dynamic range in rotation speed and measurement bandwidth without contra...

Probing entanglement in adiabatic quantum optimization with trapped ions

Adiabatic quantum optimization has been proposed as a route to solve NP-complete problems, with a possible quantum speedup compared to classical algorithms. However, the precise role of quantum effects, such as entanglement, in these optimization protocols is still unclear. We propose a setup of cold trapped ions that allows one to quantitatively characterize, in a controlled experiment, the in...

Optimal control of trapped ions – experiment

Ions that are trapped with electric and magnetic fields and manipulated with laser beams are one of the most promising systems to implement quantum algorithms, quantum simulations or also to perform high precision metrology. An important requisite for all such tasks is the cooling of the motion of the stored ions close to their quantum mechanical ground state, combined with extremely high accur...

Efficient coherent internal state transfer in trapped ions using Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage

We demonstrate experimentally how the process of Stimulated Raman Adiabatic Passage (STIRAP) can be utilized for efficient coherent internal state transfer in single trapped and laser-cooled Ca ions. The transfer from the D3/2 to the D5/2 state, is detected by a fluorescence measurement revealing the population not transfered to the D5/2 state. A coherent population transfer efficiency at the l...
